Oak Trust

Experienced proven advisors

Chris Scarff  MTI, TEP, President

Growing relationships over time

“I've been in the trust business for more than 35 years. I've worked at every level from clerk to senior management and was fortunate to have mentors who were outstanding leaders in the banking and trust industry. I draw on that combined experience every day. Whether I'm serving clients or making decisions that guide our day-to-day operations, where I've been and what I've learned are very much a part of how I do my job.

“I've always been a problem solver. I love the math and science of engineering and the clarity of numbers. But a lifetime of learning and experience has also taught me there's never just one answer. No one-size solution.

“I know how important it is to grow a relationship at the client's pace, adapting to individual and family dynamics. Our advisors need to be empathetic and understanding and yet still find a solution in a timely manner. And it had better be an ethical, honest solution. A reputation for integrity that takes a lifetime to build can be lost in seconds.

“The payoff for me comes when I am able to understand what's truly important to a client and know that we helped them make and implement a choice that reflects those values.

“I love my job. Love it. I love doing this.”

Chris is a member of both the Trust Companies Institute and the Institute of Canadian Bankers. He also maintains current standing in the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, an international body that evaluates and certifies trust and estate advisors.
